“People who may not ever meet face to face and thus have few real world connections with each other can tap into shared framework of popular culture to facilitate communication” (556)
This quote from Jenkins makes me think of all the web pages that now exist for so many different things. The first thing that comes to mind is a celebrity gossip and fan site. People can find out anything they want that is going on in a celebrity’s life through the web. Without the web there is no way this person could know about this person. You most likely will never meet this celebrity but the web makes you be able to feel you know the person inside out through the information they present you. The same thing goes for blogging. People set up blogs about everyday things. They create a following of people they have never met. Through blogs and social networking sites people become connected meeting new people in this cyber world. Some you may discuss issues with everyday and feel like you’ve known a person forever without ever meeting them. In some ways this quote makes me think about how we live in almost two worlds now the cyber world and the real world. The cyber world we may have all these people we follow through sites like twitter, respond to on blogs and chat with on facebook to entertain ourselves to vent from the real world knowing we never will have face to face communication with them. The we have this other real world where we interact with friends families professors. The web is creating a new life and new relationships a new way of forming connections between people that were never seen before. It is a new framework for culture anywhere from making connections to feeling connected to celebrities, which you never could in a world before the web.
